It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Management and Staff of North Area Funeral Home along with the Powell family regretfully announce the peaceful passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend David R. Powell, of North Charleston, SC peacefully departed this life on Sunday, October18, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, David J. Powell and Daisie Carrie Nelson Powell, wife, Doris Wrighten Powell, brothers, Jimmy L. Powell and Charles Powell.

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a loving and caring man whose genuine love, kindness, and compassion touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Through his life, he demonstrated the true meaning of hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends. His kindness, wisdom, and devotion touched countless lives and created precious memories that will be treasured for generations to come. Although he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, love, and the lessons he taught will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy will continue to live on through his family and friends, who will honor his memory by carrying forward the values he instilled, the love he so freely gave, and the faith he held so dearly.

The most precious memories of David R. Powell will forever resonate in the lives of his children, Michelle Evans (Richard), Rustoviant  L. Wrighten (Keisha), D’Linaro F. Powell (Michetta), Valecia L. Powell, Paul J. Powell, and Dr. David R. Powell II (Ophelia), siblings, Evangelist Octavine L. Marrow, Mary H. Powell, William E. Powell, Vera A. Powell Lawson, Ethel D. Powell Ackon, and Edna M. Powell, fifteen grandchildren, four-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00AM, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5885 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. .A viewing will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, 6:00PM-8:00PM, in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Powell will be laid to rest in Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405.
