Washington – Ms Ernestine Washington, daughter of the late Mrs Florine H. Jenkins and Mr James Manigualt, Jr, mother of the Christopher Washington was born in Awendaw, South Carolina.  Her life journey is like looking at a piece of clothing which started out as a single piece of thread and its completion leads you to a garment.  Her ties that bind started with the Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.  Her beginnings were in a small town in Charleston County called Awendaw.  Her education began in the Public schools in Charleston County; Awendaw and Porcher Elementary Schools, then on to Lincoln High in McClellanville.  In 1966 at the age of eighteen she relocated to New York City to pursue a better life and to complete and further advance her education.  She worked during the day and attended Wadleigh Evening High School for adults to complete her 12 ^th grade education. She enrolled in the Manpower Development Training Practical Nursing Program. She finished Bronx Community College pasted New York State board exam and became a registered nurse, nursing was her bag.

She was a faithful member of Easter Chapter #37 Order of the Eastern Star. During her 29 years of devoted membership in her chapter;  she served Star point of Adah through Electra; Worth Matron 1995-1999. She wore many hats; serving on the Grand Star as Esther and Martha, Board of Trustees, Grand Recorder, Grand Water, Grand Associate Conductress, Grand Associate Matron, and lastly; was honored to serve in Star of Hope Grand Chapter as Grand Matron 2015-2018. Ms.Washington will be laid to rest on April 17, 2020 at Mt. Nebo AME Church Cemetery 5600 Hwy 17 N Awendaw, SC 29429 ( Private)
