Evangelist Mattie Broderick Moore McDonald was born on February 23, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Broderick, Sr. and the late Anna Washington Broderick. She departed this life on Thursday, April 21, 2011 as she slipped away quietly. She attended the public schools of Charleston, and later she began working for the Naval Shipyard, where she would later retire. She worked there for many years. Mattie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Aaron H. Moore, Jr. To this union, five children were born. Later on in life, she met and married the late Isaiah McDonald. Mama was a trooper and a fighter to so many. No matter what the problem or what pain she was feeling, she kept going through and holding on. She loved to cook and spend time with her family and extended family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Many of us drew from her strength and courage, always learning to lean and depend on the name of Jesus. Mama taught us to pray and to keep on praying. Mattie was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Annette D. M. DeSaussure (the late Mr. Bruce A. "Sandy" DeSaussure, Sr.); and her brothers and sisters, Mary Major, John Dell White, James William Broderick, Walter Broderick and Herman Broderick. Mattie leaves to cherish her memories to last for a lifetime: four loving children, Esther M. (Herbert) Gethers, Michael A. Moore, Bernadette C. Moore, and Aaron H. (JacQueline) Moore, III; nine grandchildren of which two she raised as her own; Minister Mario D. DeSaussure, and Raa'Moon Moore, Bruce A. DeSaussure, Jr., and Shelton L. DeSaussure, Corderrel Green, Michael, Antonio, Okite, and Cordaro Watson; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Nancy) and Hilton (Nora Lee) Broderick of Charleston, South Carolina; and Lee Broderick (Catherine) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Helen B. Cross (the late Edward) of Charleston, South Carolina and Anna Ruth B. Capers (Eugene) of Columbia, South Carolina; three sisters -in- law Helen, Vanessa, and Johnnie Mae Broderick; adopted children, Stephanie, Jackie, Nancy, Anthony, Angelo and Henry; nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
