It's with profound sadness and heavy hearts, the Management and Staff of North Area Funeral Home along with the Horton family announce the passing of Mr. John L. Horton, Sr., affectionally known as "Renzia" of North Charleston, SC joined the heavenly choir on Thursday December 19, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Williams and Geneva Horton, his beautiful wife, Vermail A. Simmons Horton, son, Jamol Horton Sr., four brothers, Curtis Horton, David Matthew Horton, and Perry Chaneyfield.; three grandchildren; Antonio Graham, Sayvon Wright, and Quiessence Simpson.

Mr. Horton will truly be missed by family and friends, his incredible heartwarming voice of hymns and encouraging words of wisdom and knowledge.

The most precious memories of Mr. Horton will resound in the life of his children,Sinclair (Annette Russell) Chaneyfield, of Birmingham, AL,  John (Shantaya) Horton, Jr., of Charleston, SC, Troy Simpson, of Ridgeland, SC, and Zacobia (Cedrick) Ritter, of Simpsonville, SC, three brothers, Steven Chaneyfield, Robert Lanier Chaneyfield, and Nelson Chaneyfield, seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.

A wake will take place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 5:00-7:00PM, in the funeral home chapel.  His Celebration of Life Service will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10:00AM, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Center, 3763 Bees Creek Road, Ridgeland, SC, 29936.
