It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Management and Staff of North Area Funeral Home, along with the Smith family, announce the passing of Mr. Melvin Smith of Charleston, SC. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2026.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. His spirit will continue to shine through his family and friends, reminding us of the importance of love and happiness. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Smith, his siblings, Mattie Smith, Sarah Ann Sawyer, Dollie Williams (Wilson), Tommy Smith, all of Matterson GA, Shirley Greene, Jackie Mallory, Queenie Smith, Josephine, Fred Mallory, and Harry Mallory, all of Greenburg, GA, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

His Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11AM, Greater Middleton Chapel, 5 Johnson Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Service will be live stream on Facebook @ North Area Funeral LLC. His wake service will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026, 6:00PM-8:00PM, Greater Middleton Chapel, 5 Johnson Street, Charleston, SC 29403. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashely Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418.
