It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Management and Staff of North Area Funeral Home along with the Howard family regretfully announce the peaceful passing of a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend Rebecca Margret Howard, of Charleston, SC peacefully departed this life on Friday, September 11, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Goodwine and Ernestine Shingle, husband, Freddie Howard, two daughters, Penny and Ruthie Shingle, son, Anthony Ellison, sisters, Vernel Payton and Rosetta Lopez.

Rebecca will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know and love her. She treasured spending time with those closest to her and found great joy in preparing meals, crabbing and fishing, making beautiful quilts, sharing stories, and filling the room with laughter. She was a woman of faith who encouraged her family to develop and maintain a personal relationship with God. Through her love, kindness, wisdom, and devotion, she touched the lives of many and created memories that will be cherished by generations. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to live on through her family and friends. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and we find comfort knowing that she is resting peacefully in the loving arms of God.

The most precious memories of Rebecca Margret Howard will forever resonate in the lives of her daughters, Priscilla Goodwine (Jesse), Wilhelmina Jacobs, Karen Smalls (Joseph), Shannon Ford (James), and Martha Johnson; son, Freddie Howard (Carol); 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers, Oscar Shingle, Johnny Shingle, Lamont Shingle, and Larry Goodwine; sisters, Martha Goodwine, and Mary Myers special cousin, Lisa Gadsden, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, September19, 2026, at 11:00Am, Bible Way Baptist Church, 2019 Savage Road, Charleston, SC (West Ashley), Rev. Dr. Lawrence Bratton, Pastor. A viewing will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026, 5:00PM-8:00PM, in the funeral home chapel. Mrs. Howard will be laid to rest in Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 61, Charleston, SC.
