It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God call you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Management and Staff of North Area Funeral Home and the Wilson and Washington  family regretfully announce the peaceful passing of Verbertine Washington "affectionally known as Verbie" of North Charleston, SC departed this life on Saturday June 27, 2026, peacefully at home. She was proceed in death by her son, Malik Nelson.

Verbie was such a beautiful person—beautiful smile, warm, and showing love to anyone she met. She was a wonderful cook who could win your love with a home-cooked meal. Verbie will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She showed love and compassion for everyone, a heart of gold, and she always kept it real. The love she showed to family and friends was indescribable.  Take your rest, Verbie. God loves you best, and we will cherish all your wonderful memories—always near and dear to our hearts.

The most precious memories of Verbertine Washington will forever resonate in the lives of her children, Melissa Wilson, Marquese Wilson, Oliver Nelson Jr., and Shaterria King, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, 11:00AM, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5885 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405, Rev. Dr. Timothy R. Simmons, Pastor.  A viewing will take place on Friday, July 3, 2026 from 6:00PM-8:00PM, in the funeral home chapel. Please keep the Wilson and Washington family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
